Requirements and Application Routing Information
Applications to programs in the College of Education are eligible for review when a complete application with required materials is received. Each college and program may set admission criteria and procedures beyond that of the Graduate School. The University of Maryland Graduate School is the official admittance office for all graduate students across the College Park Campus. The Graduate Catalog contains criteria and policies regarding admission.

University of Maryland's Graduate Application Process
The University of Maryland’s Graduate School accepts applications through its EnrollmentRx application system.  To start a graduate application go to gradapply.umd.edu. Before completing the graduate application, applicants are asked to check the Admissions Requirements site for specific program application instructions.

As required by the Graduate School, all application materials are to be submitted electronically:

  • Graduate application
  • Transcripts*
  • Statement of purpose
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Program/Department supporting documents (as applicable)
  • Test scores (if applicable)**
  • Non-refundable application fee ($75) for each program to which an applicant applies
*International transcripts: You must upload a scanned official copy of all previous degree transcript(s) issued in the original language with a literal English translation, and certificate and diploma.
**Some programs may require GRE or MAT or Basic Skills exam reports.  Please check your program requirements page.

The electronic submission of application materials helps expedite the review of an application. Completed applications are reviewed by an admissions committee in the graduate degree program to which you apply.   The admission recommendations from the programs/departments are submitted to the Dean of the Graduate School.  Thus, all degree-seeking applicants must be formally admitted to the University of Maryland Graduate School.

Information for International Graduate Students
The University of Maryland is dedicated to maintaining a vibrant international graduate student community. The Office of International Students and Scholars Services (ISSS) is a valuable resource of information and assistance for prospective and current international students.  International applicants are encouraged to explore the services they offer and contact them with related questions.

The University of Maryland Graduate School offers admission to international students based on the academic information; it is not a guarantee of attendance.  International students recommended for admission will then receive instructions for obtaining the appropriate visa to study at the University of Maryland which will require the submission of additional documentation.  Please see the Graduate Admissions Process for International applicants for more information.

If you are interested in applying as a Non-Degree seeking, visiting student, or Golden ID (for Maryland senior citizens) please see the Graduate School admission requirements webpage.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the Hobsons online application’s helpdesk for any technical issues.
