In an era of disinformation, it’s becoming harder for citizens to distinguish fact from fiction. Why do lies seem to spread faster than the truth? When does debunking falsehoods work and when does it backfire? With two-thirds of surveyed news consumers expressing little to no trust in the media, how can we set the record straight?
Join the Maryland Democracy Initiative and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism for a one-day conference exploring the critical work on information resilence. Through expert panels and interactive workshops, we’ll tackle key issues in media literacy, foreign propaganda and the challenge of informing voters in a divisive political landscape.
The conference will feature an exciting lineup of researchers and journalists addressing the evolving media, democracy and disinformation landscape. College of Education Assistant Professor Sarah McGrew will lead the "Media literacy for the New Generation: TikTok and Beyond" workshop from 1-2 p.m.
While the event is free, space is limited.
