A K-12 Dive article spotlights how “grow-your-own” teacher programs, specifically the Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM), are showing measurable impact by building a local pipeline of future educators. A recent study co-authored by Associate Professor David Blazar found that students who participated in the program were 45% more likely to become teachers within 10 years, offering rare, credible evidence of long-term impact.
These findings are significant, because this appears to be the first time researchers have analyzed the impacts that a grow-your-own program can have on students’ likelihood of teaching later, said Blazar.
