Our three Class of 2026 Alumni kicked off their fall at the Flats by participating in Residential Onboarding Sessions hosted by Mainstreet.
Our Plus One Alumni Year helps graduates of the TerpsEXCEED Program transition into life after college, moving into a below-market-rate apartment building in College Park with reduced but continued mentor support. We are partnered with Mainstreet Connect and The Flats at College Park. Take a look at the information about this unique opportunity for graduates of TerpsEXCEED, on the Plus One Year for TerpsEXCEED Alumni Website.
In the fall, we will offer an annual information session and tour at the Flats at College Park for students who may be interested in pursuing this opportunity after graduating from TerpsEXCEED. Please contact Julie Ryan-Silva, Chief Impact Officer at Main Street, for more information about the Plus One Program.
TerpsEXCEED’s own Peer Mentor Amira Dacy was awarded the 2022-2023 Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellow position! She is a Dietetics major and Disability Studies minor at UMD. She started as a Peer Mentor for TerpsEXCEED as a freshman and has since become a lead peer mentor and undergraduate researcher.
Amira describes her position and how it has impacted her: “My job is to support the inclusion of TerpsEXCEED students in every space on campus classrooms, athletic events, dining areas, performance spaces, the gym. I also educate others about maximizing accessibility and engage in research designed to evaluate the success of post-secondary education programs like TerpsEXCEED.”
The President of the University of Maryland distinguishes Amira through her leadership and motivation, “Her commitment to civic engagement and leadership will undoubtedly continue to inspire others and create positive change in the world." We cannot wait to see what our mentors can accomplish next. Read more Here.
