Please join us for the Maryland Civic Education & Engagement Leadership Summit, hosted by the Maryland Civic Education Coalition, the University of Maryland College of Education, and the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.

On February 17, join experts and practitioners with front line experience, including classroom educators, district and state curriculum developers, and nonprofit professionals providing in-school and after school programming. Along with elected officials and business leaders, this venerable group will focus on ways in which Maryland leads the nation in civic education, as well as make recommendations about how to address opportunity gaps and strengthen civics education and service-learning in the state.

Summit Agenda

A number of concurrent round table conversations with teachers, young people, and other experts. Each round table will be followed by smaller, related breakout room spaces for summit participants to network and discuss successes, challenges, and recommendations.

The Maryland Civic Education and Engagement Summit will feature:

John King Jr
Keynote Speaker: John B. King, Jr, President and CEO, The Education Trust; UMD College of Education Visiting Professor will talk with UMD College of Education Dean Jennifer King Rice about the state of civic education in Maryland.

Five roundtable discussions on the 10 practices of effective civic education featuring student voices, teachers from counties across the state, academic perspectives, administrators from the district and state level, and out-of-school community leaders.

Breakout rooms for deep dives in small groups.
