Overview

Special education is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to ensuring that all learners have equitable access to meaningful, high-quality educational experiences. Professionals in the field support students with diverse learning, physical, social-emotional and developmental needs, working across a variety of inclusive, collaborative and specialized settings. Grounded in research, policy and practice, special education emphasizes advocacy, accessibility, and the belief that every student can learn and thrive.

Through a combination of coursework and field experiences, our special education program prepares students to support the individual needs of learners. Students develop the knowledge and skills to design inclusive instruction, implement evidence-based interventions and collaborate closely with families, educators and service providers. Graduates are equipped to foster inclusive classrooms and environments that promote belonging, growth and success for all students.
