Alignment Studies: SAT to Maryland State Assessment Programs
An Review on Alignment of the SAT Mathematics Items (ongoing)
This project reviews SAT alignment studies to Algebra I standards across states in the U.S. We summarize the comparison of Algebra 1 standards across states, the alignment methods (including the comparison of Algebra 1 blueprints across states), and the alignment results. The alignment methods and results are summarized for alignment studies using the standard-to-standard and item-to-standard approaches, respectively. In general, the item alignment to two domains: Number & Quantity and Statistics did not meet the evaluation criteria in the majority of the studies for both content standards and cognitive complexity. Less than 50% of standards were covered by the SAT items in 9 out of 11 alignment studies.
Summary of Review of SAT Alignment Studies.pdf- Alignment of the SAT Mathematics Items and the MCAP Algebra I Items to the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards (ongoing)
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the appropriateness of using SAT as a substitute for the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) Algebra I test as the high school graduation assessment in Maryland. Specifically, an alignment study of the SAT mathematics items to the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards will be conducted. The study is designed to evaluate the extent to which the SAT items are aligned with the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards and the depth of knowledge (DOK) levels of the SAT items. In addition, the study will also align MCAP Algebra I items with the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards and evaluate the DOK levels of the MCAP Algebra I items. The similarities and the differences between the SAT math items and MCAP Algebra I items will be evaluated in terms of content standard coverage and the DOK level distribution to evaluate the content representation and the rigor of each test against the Maryland Algebra I standards. -

Alignment of the SAT mathematics items and the PARCC Algebra I items to the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards (2021)
MARC_2021 SAT and PARCC Alignment executive summary.pdf
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the appropriateness of using SAT as a substitute of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) Algebra I test as the high school graduation assessment in Maryland. Specifically, an alignment study of the SAT mathematics items to the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards was conducted. The study was designed to evaluate the extent the SAT items are aligned with the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards and the depth of knowledge (DOK) levels of the SAT items. In addition, the study also aligned PARCC math items with the Maryland Algebra I College and Career Ready Standards and evaluated the DOK levels of the PARCC math items. The similarities and the differences between the SAT items and PARCC items were evaluated in terms of content standard coverage and the DOK level distribution to evaluate the content representation and the rigor of each test against the Maryland Algebra I standards.
